![]() Barrel racer shines at Little Barrel Bash. Wednesday, November 24, 2004 Jamie Brown of Citronelle, Alabama fried the competition in
Ardmore by winning both go’s of the futurity and running the fast time of 2004
Jud Little Bar Nothing Barrel Bash Futurity. She did it on “Dial” a 15.2 hand grandson of Johnny
Dial and great-grandson of Bugs Alive sending a powerful message that a new super horse had
arrived. Jamie’s horse “Dial” won the first go of the futurity
with a 16.155 to earn $1,899.72. Super horse Promise to Dash ridden by Cody
Bausermann ran a 16.442 to place second.
The second go was the same story with Dial running a fast time of 16.271
to win a paycheck of $1,899.72. CDT
Go Little Queenie with Brad Wagner was second with a 16.447. Dial for Dreams is the son of a mare that Jaime owned for twenty years and ran 1D barrels on. The mare’s name was Go Spot Dial, an own daughter of Johnny Dial. She was humanely put down this past winter and Jaime is still emotional when talking about the great mare. She also owns a 2 year filly out of Go Spot Dial. Dial for Dreams sire is Dreams For by Oh Oh Bugs, a son of son of Bugs Alive in 75. Dreams For Us is deceased. Before starting his barrel horse career, Dial went to the
track as a two year old and had 3 official outs. Known for breaking quickly at the gates and capturing the
lead, Dial would let the pack catch him and quit trying. “It was like he was
playing a game with the other horses' said Jaime.
Dial was brought home and brush raced 5 times for 5 victories.
After his brush-racing career ended Jaime started him on barrels. “He was a
natural to train. He could of ran
the barrels after 30 days of training the same way he runs them today” said
Jaime. The horse still competes in
a simple O ring snaffle and loose tie down. However multiple injuries throughout his career have
delayed his career. “He acts like a stud, always wants attention and is
always acting up in the pasture. He
always has playing on his mind”. His
playful and sometimes feisty attitude have contributed to a host of injuries. The 4 year ran at the
2003 Holiday Classic and pulled a barrel to place second..
Again, a hock injury setback the team.
He recovered in time for Ft. Smith and finished 14th overall.
Jaime felt he hadn’t recovered completely but knew he was on the right
track. She continued
campaigning him close to home where he clocked winning runs.
Injury struck again when Dial drove a rebar through the front of his
knee. The piece of steel entered
the front on his knee and exited out the top of the knee. He recovered in time to compete at the Non Pro Hattisburg
Race. The pair tipped to
place in the first go but won the 2nd go. . The win at Ardmore was pure joy for Jaime. “I saw the trophy saddle when I checked in and didn’t
think I’d win it –I really thought Cody
would take home the saddle home” After
hitting costly barrels earlier in the season Jame’s game plan in Ardmore was
to make two clean runs. Dial’s
all business style made the first barrel challenging. He fired hard
to the first barrel and tried to take the bit completely from Jaime.
Although he made mistakes on both runs he kept forward motion to clock
winning times. “Amazing” is how Jaime described the Bar Nothin
victory. Although Jaime has had several six figure offers for the
horse at this time he stays put. The
horse is her buddy, she raised him from a colt, broke and trained him herself.
Although she has owned good horses before, this is the first horse
she’s taken on the road to prove. Her
father’s mentoring has guided her through her career.
A former barrel racer himself, she appreciates his encouragement and at
times strong push to continue. Not only does Jamie truck through the barrel pattern but
she owns her own Trucking Dispatch company.
Brown Trucking dispatches contract trucks on assignment.
The business allows her to ride up to 6 head (some outside horses) a day
and still man the phones. She
can handle a horse and dispatch a truck on her cell phone at the same time. What special quality does Jamie feel drive Dial to win? “Grit. The
horse has grit, he loves to run and tries every time”. She responded. We look forward to watching this exciting team at Oklahoma City and on to the Holiday Classic. BHW will keep its readers updated on the success of Jamie Brown and her horse Dial. Congratulations Jaime. Click here
